DEFECT · BOX CREASES
Funko Pop crease grading.
A crease is the difference between an 8.5 and a 7. Here's how graders measure crease severity and what each level costs you on the final grade.
What separates a crease from whitening
Whitening is just compressed paper — fibers intact, color reduced. A crease is a permanent fold with damaged fibers, visible as a hard line that doesn't disappear under any angle of light. Whitening is half a point. A crease is 2-3 points.
Crease severity by length
Pin crease (< 5mm) — drop overall by 1.
Short (5-15mm) — caps overall at 8.
Long (>15mm) — caps overall at 7.5.
Through a corner or edge — caps at 7.
FAQ · funko pop crease grading
Asked & answered.
How much does a Funko Pop crease lower the grade?
A pin crease under 5mm drops the grade by ~1 point. A short crease (5-15mm) caps the grade at 8. Long creases (>15mm) cap at 7.5. Creases through corners or edges drop to 7 because they trigger deductions on two subgrades.
Is a crease worse than a dent?
Usually yes. A dent is a deformation that can be subtle from certain angles. A crease is a permanent fold visible from any angle. For the same surface area, a crease causes a 1-2 point bigger deduction than a dent.
Is Popinspect an official grader?
No. We are pre-grade intelligence — we predict what CGC, Beckett, SWAU, VVGS, or PGS are likely to grade your Pop. The official grade still comes from them. We just make sure you only ship the ones worth shipping. See our 47-point rubric →
