Should I grade my Funko Pop?

Submitting a Funko Pop costs $20–$40 and takes 3-8 weeks. Get it wrong and the graded result is worse than the raw — destroying value. Here's how to decide in the post-PSA 2026 market, plus a free pre-grade preview so you don't gamble.

The grading math, plainly

Grading is only worth it when (graded sale price) − (raw sale price) > (submission fee + shipping + your time). The submission alone is $20-25 at most grading houses; round-trip shipping adds another $15-25.
The graded premium varies wildly by SKU. A common modern Pop might sell raw for $20 and graded-9.5 for $30 — that's negative ROI. A vintage chase like Metallic Boba Fett might sell raw for $400 and graded-9.5 for $1,400 — that's worth grading even if the prep took an afternoon.

When grading INCREASES Funko Pop value

Rare / chase / convention exclusives — slabbed authentication adds genuine value because fakes exist.
Signed Pops — graders authenticate signatures, which buyers pay a 30-200% premium for.
Vintage 2010-2015 Pops — supply of mint examples is thin; 9.5+ commands serious premiums.
Anything you'd insure — slabs survive shipping, stay sealed, and have a paper trail.

When grading is a money pit

Modern non-chase Pops trading under ~$40 raw. The graded uplift rarely covers fees.
Anything under a 9.0 — graded results in the 7-8 range hurt resale because they document the flaws in writing.
Pops with visible defects (paint slop, box dents) that you're hoping the grader 'won't notice.' They notice.

How to know before paying

The 2026 grading landscape (post-PSA)

PSA discontinued Funko Pop grading on December 1, 2025. In 2026, your options are CGC (default), Beckett (centering specialty), SWAU (signed Pops), VVGS (paint strictness), and PGS (cheapest). Popinspect's predictor is calibrated for all five — the report tells you which grader gives the highest grade for your specific Pop. Full PSA-exit context →
FAQ · should I grade my funko pop

Asked & answered.

Is grading my Funko Pop worth it?
Worth it when (graded sale − raw sale) exceeds the $50-70 round-trip cost of submission + shipping. Generally true for: rare/chase Pops, signed Pops, vintage 2010-2015 Pops in 9.5+ condition. Generally NOT true for modern common Pops or anything under a 9.0. Full ROI math →
How to know if a Funko Pop is worth grading?
Four-step check: (1) does it fit one of the 7 worth-grading categories — chase, signed, vintage, convention, vaulted, grail, or high-value modern? (2) Does a free Popinspect pre-grade predict 9.5+? (3) Does the ROI calculator show positive net after fees? (4) Is the market not time-sensitive (a 4-8 week wait won't miss the spike)? If all four answer yes → submit.
How much value does grading add to a Funko Pop?
Varies by SKU. Common modern: 10-40% premium for a 9.5+ — often not enough to cover fees. Vintage / chase / signed: 100-400% premium is common, especially at 9.5 and 10. Always check current sold comps on eBay before submitting. Net uplift by grade tier →
What's the cheapest way to grade a Funko Pop?
CGC at $23 economy is the safe cheap choice. PGS at $18 is cheaper but slabs sell at 70-85% of CGC liquidity. The truly cheapest path is to NOT submit Pops that won't grade well — our $1.98 pre-grade pays for itself the first time it saves you from a bad submission. Cheapest grader breakdown →
