What the AI actually does
The model runs a 47-point inspection across 8 categories (Box, Window, Stickers, Figure paint, Figure body, Centering, Vaulting, Presentation) on each photo you upload. Each defect is geolocated to a pixel coordinate, ranked by severity, and weighted into a final 0-100 confidence score plus a likely PSA / CGC / Beckett grade range.
It was trained against 12,000 manually graded Pops from real PSA submissions. We re-audit quarterly — current production version is
v1.4-2026-05, and that version stamp is on every report so you can trace which model produced any past call. What automatic box flaw detection catches
Corner whitening (under raking light reproduction), edge dents, surface scratches, window scratches and clouding, sticker peel/fade, paint slop, mold seams, off-centering, and missing factory plastic. Each defect is logged with its category, severity (minor/moderate/major), and an exact location on the photo so you can verify.
How the AI grader compares to a human grader
Within ±0.5 of the real PSA grade in 94% of cases. Within ±1.0 in 99%. The 1% miss-rate is almost always a borderline call we honestly flag as MAYBE — not a confident wrong answer. The model is intentionally conservative: false positives (sending a bad Pop) cost users real money, false negatives (holding a good Pop) only cost time.
The 94% match rate was historically calibrated against PSA submissions. With PSA exiting Funko grading in December 2025, the model is now re-calibrated against CGC, Beckett, SWAU, VVGS, and PGS submissions — each with its own per-grader prediction confidence band.
The 47-point rubric — what each point measures
Every pre-grade runs 47 individual inspection points across 8 categories. Box contributes 12 points (corners × 8, edges × 3, faces × 1). Window contributes 5 points (scratch zones × 3, clouding, cracks). Stickers contributes 6 points (each sticker × adhesion + color + authenticity). Figure paint contributes 10 points (face × 4, body × 3, accessories × 3). Figure body contributes 6 (seams × 2, head fit, base, scratches, glue). Centering contributes 4 (top-bottom, left-right, figure tilt, depth). Vaulting & rarity contributes 2 (shrink-wrap, variant match). Overall presentation contributes 2. See the full methodology →
Defect heatmap — see exactly where flaws live
Every pre-grade ships with a defect heatmap — pixel-accurate overlays on each of your 5 photos showing the location and severity of every detected flaw. Green markers (minor), yellow (moderate), red (severe). Each marker is labeled with the subgrade it affects.
FAQ · ai funko pop grading
Asked & answered.
Is there an AI Funko Pop grading app?
Popinspect is a web app — works on phone and desktop browsers without installing anything. Sign up at popinspect.com, upload 5 photos, get a grade prediction in 60 seconds. Also accessible from mobile browsers — no app store install required.
How accurate is AI Funko Pop grading?
Popinspect matches the official PSA grade within ±0.5 in 94% of cases (audited on 12,000 submissions). Within ±1.0 in 99%. For borderline calls, we return MAYBE with a specific reason rather than guessing. See the 47-point methodology →
What is the Funko Pop 47-point rubric?
47 individual inspection points across 8 categories (Box, Window, Stickers, Figure paint, Figure body, Centering, Vaulting & rarity, Overall presentation). Each point is scored by the AI and weighted into a final grade prediction and a 0-100 confidence score. Full rubric breakdown →
What's the Funko Pop PSA match rate accuracy?
94% within ±0.5 grade on 12,000 historical PSA submissions used for calibration. With PSA exiting Funko grading in December 2025, the model is now also calibrated against CGC, Beckett, SWAU, VVGS, and PGS — each grader gets its own per-grader prediction band on every report.
What's a Funko Pop pre-grading tool?
A pre-grading tool predicts the likely grade a professional grader (CGC, Beckett, SWAU, VVGS, or PGS) would award your Pop, so you can decide whether to spend the $25 submission fee. Popinspect is the leading 2026 pre-grading tool — calibrated against 12,000 real submissions, free for your first 2 Pops. Try it free →
What's the difference between AI pre-grading and real grading?
AI pre-grading predicts the likely real grade so you can decide whether to submit. Real grading issues an authoritative slab with a paper trail — that still has to come from CGC, Beckett, SWAU, VVGS, or PGS. Pre-grade saves you from spending $25 on a Pop that won't earn it back.
Can the AI detect counterfeit Funko Pop stickers?
Yes — the Vaulting & rarity check inspects sticker authenticity against known production runs. Reproductions, reseals, and authentication risks are flagged in the report's Defects section before you waste $25 on a failed submission.
How much does Popinspect cost?
Credit packs that never expire. Curious — 2 free credits. Starter — $29 / 10. Collector — $99 / 50 ($1.98/credit). Bulk — $349 / 250 ($1.40/credit + concierge submission to CGC, Beckett, SWAU, VVGS, or PGS). See full pricing →
Is Popinspect an official grader?
No. We are pre-grade intelligence — we predict what CGC, Beckett, SWAU, VVGS, or PGS are likely to grade your Pop. The official grade still comes from them. We just make sure you only ship the ones worth shipping. See our 47-point rubric →
